We often struggle to understand the reasons why people use behaviours that challenge as a means of communication. This event will introduce the concept of Trauma informed care and look at how this model can be developed in services for people who have learning disabilities. The model proposes that trauma may be a factor in the onset of behaviours that challenge, but also that the response of services and supports can make things worse by delivering interventions that are in themselves traumatic including restrictive physical interventions and seclusion.
