Emma Taylor and Kellyanne Thornton have worked closely with children and young people with intellectual disabilities for eight years in the Psychology and Therapies Department at Sunfield. Both graduated from university with a degree in Psychology. While employed as psychology assistants for Sunfield they became particularly interested in the role and power of play interventions in the developing child with learning disabilities and ASD. They are now qualified play therapists under Play Therapy UK.
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO:
Heighten awareness that non-directive and directive play can be valuable tools for children with learning difficulties and ASD.
Provide you with the opportunity to acquire basic understanding of the principles and practice of interactive play intervention and play therapy.
Provide you with play opportunities to re-discover the powerful nature of play.
COURSE MEMBERS SHOULD EXPECT:
To work in a warm and supportive atmosphere.
To share play experiences through group work.
To be involved in a range of practical activities that may create mess.
To play and have fun.
THIS COURSE WILL BENEFIT YOU BY:
Re-awakening your inner child through play exploration, enabling you to truly understand and appreciate the influence and impact of play for children.
Giving you ideas and confidence to go out and play.
AT THE END OF THIS COURSE THOSE PARTICIPATING WILL HAVE:
An understanding of the Power of Play through their own experience and reflections shared throughout the day.
Course cost per family member: £10.00 (Sunfield parents are exempt)
